Surface Type Cover Filter Device Missing

What if you own the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and the type cover stops working? I mean you can still work on the tablet by adding any other USB or Bluetooth keyboard but what’s a Surface without its Type Cover. If you are also experiencing this issue with your Microsoft Surface tablet then here are some fixes we have here which you can use to get the Type cover working again. There are only possible methods which could be working for you.

For example, to update a Surface Book 2 with build 15063 of Windows 10, choose SurfaceBook2Win100092.msi. For a Surface Book 2 with build 16299 of Windows 10, choose SurfaceBook2Win100092.msi. For more info about the Surface MSI naming convention, see Deploy the latest firmware and drivers for Surface devices.

  1. Select the search box in the taskbar, enter device manager, and select Device Manager in the results. Expand Keyboards. Right-click Surface Type Cover Filter Device. Select Uninstall OK. Restart your Surface. It'll automatically download and install the Surface Cover driver the next time you connect to the Internet.
  2. Open Device Manager Expand Keyboards (Surface Type Cover Filter Device was missing) Uninstalled one of the HID Keyboard Devices Did Scan for new Hardware changes (by right clicking on computer name).

Method 1

This method is for the Microsoft Surface running Windows 8 or Windows 8.1; this method is very simple and quick.

Surface type cover driver install windows 10
  1. Right click on Start button and select “Device Manager.”
  2. In Device Manager find the Unknown Devices with a yellow triangle on it.
  3. Right click on the unknown device and select “Update Driver Software.”
  4. Click on “Let me pick from a list of device drivers” and select Keyboard and then click next.
  5. Select HID keyboard device and click Finish.

If you see an Unknown device in Device Manager, repeat this process with that device too. The Keyboard should be working by now and if not then you might have to refresh the Windows because some corrupt drivers were keeping the keyboard from working. To refresh the PC, go to Settings > Update and Recovery > select “Refresh your PC without affecting your files.”

Method 2

This method is working perfectly on Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and later. Also, it is a very easy method, follow these simple steps to get your Type cover working again.

Reinstall Surface Pro 4 Type Cover Driver

Surface type cover driver

Surface Type Cover Filter Device Missing In Device Manager

Driver
  1. Turn off your Microsoft Surface and connect the Type cover now to the tablet
  2. Now hold the Volume up and power button together to turn on the tablet.
  3. The tablet will boot into the BIOS menu
  4. The keyboard and trackpad must be working in the BIOS menu.
  5. Do not change anything in the BIOS menu, press the Esc key then press Enter

Surface Type Cover Driver

This method is reported working for most of the Microsoft Surface Type Cover perfectly. If any of this method is not working for you, then You have to get your Type Cover checked by the service center. If you have access to any other Type cover (from your friends), then try to connect it to your tablet. If it works, then it is bad news that your Type Cover might be malfunctioning and get it repaired or buy a new one. If you know any method not listed here to fix the problem, do share that with us in the comment section.

Surface Type Cover Filter Device Driver Missing

hi all,
i have a surface pro 3 with a type cover 4 (i got the surface pro4 type cover) running windows 10 and the type cover is no longer being recognized out of the blue.
I have tried many troubleshooting methods, but none have worked so far.
I opened device manager and i noticed the only keyboard category driver i have is the HID Keyboard. Looking in other threads on this issue, it seems i should have a driver for 'Surface Type Cover Filter Device' or for 'Surface Type Cover'
Does anyone know where i can find the driver for the type cover 4?
Troubleshooting steps i already initiated and none of them have worked so far:
* unclicked and reclicked the keyboard many times, while connected to the internet
* did a two button shutdown/reboot
* brought the computer up to date on windows update, did reboots, shutdowns, nothing
* reset the laptop (while maintaining all data) and then installed windows updates again + some more reboots
* installed the latest 'SurfacePro3_Win10_10586_1702002_0.msi' drivers & firmware pack for surface pro3 from Download Surface Pro 3 from Official Microsoft Download Center
* *tried* to install the latest 'SurfacePro4_Win10_15063_1702001_0.msi' drivers & firmware pack for surface pro4 from Download Surface Pro 4 Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center but it did not work since i have the surface pro 3
i cannot get the driver to show up anymore, and given that i never uninstalled or deleted it, i don't know what else i can do.
I am traveling and don't have access to a microsoft store to purchase a new keyboard so i am stuck and i would appreciate any help in further troubleshooting or locating the proper driver for the keyboard.
thanks in advance!
